Welwyn Garden City Branch

Mimic's original branch and our biggest, Welwyn Garden City classes are held at Applecroft School and the Quaker Meeting House.

Our Classes

Our Welwyn classes run on Thursdays and Fridays at Applecroft School. We offer classes in Performing Arts (Singing, Acting and Dancing) of multiple lengths and days of choice for children aged 3-21 years. We also offer Acrobatic Arts. For full details on our class timetable, click below. 

Meet The Team

Bethany Filler

Headteacher

Drama & Singing Teacher

(Main School)

​Bethany started her professional journey as a child, attending the Sylvia Young Theatre School from the age of 10. She then went on to gain her DDI teaching qualification from the ISTD syllabus in both Tap and Modern, before continuing her training at Bodywork Company, where she left with a level 6 Diploma in Musical Theatre, and was awarded the Triple Threat Award. Whilst training, and since Graduating, Bethany has worked professionally in numerous shows, including Hairspray, Sister Act, Rapunzel the musical, The Producers and Singing in the rain as well as appearing in various pantos, and most recently completing a 6 month contract in the Caribbean where she starred in shows such as Alice in Wonderland, Jungle Book and Treasure Island, as well as being the lead actor and singer in a cabaret style show called Dolce Vita. Bethany has also been teaching since the age of 15. Bethany's favourite thing about teaching is watching her students grow in confidence and leave the class with a big smile on their face after a good session of working hard! Beth teaches Drama for our Friday Stage School.

Connie Marshall

Singing Teacher (Main School)

Connie graduated from the University of Chichester in 2024 on their ‘Triple Threat’ course. During her training she performed in Crybaby the Musical as Lenora and Nice Work If You Can Get It as Millicent Winters. In 2025 she made her professional debut in Twisted the Musical as Ensemble/Cover Meg. Since then she has performed in several cabarets at Phoenix Arts Club and The Other Palace in London. For Mimic, Connie has guest tutored for the Hertford COPs Youth Theatre, and assisted with the Musical Direction of The Sound of Music in 2026. Connie is thrilled to be taking a permanent teaching position with Mimic.

Charlotte Preston

Drama & Singing Teacher

Charlotte has just graduated from St Mary’s University with a first class degree in Acting. She has been acting and singing all her life, in lots of different musicals and plays. Charlotte originally joined Mimic as a student when she was 14, and now she’s back as a teacher! Whilst at Mimic, Charlotte played Margot in Anne Frank and Fantine in Les Miserables. She also played the lead role of Elle Woods in Legally Blonde. Teaching kids the joy of being on the stage is one of her biggest passions and she is so excited for what’s ahead!

Lucy Shadbolt

Assistant

Lucy began assisting with our Welwyn Lite School and now assists for our Stevenage Juniors, as well as the Lite and Main School in Welwyn. Lucy originally joined Mimic as a student in 2022. She is currently studying for her A Levels and trains weekly in dance styles including Contemporary, Modern and Jazz. She loves to share her passions for Dance and Musical Theatre to younger performers and hopes to help them to progress and achieve their dreams.

Olivia Evans

Assistant (Main School)

Olivia is an NYT graduate and professional actor based in London and Hertfordshire, who recently finished a foundation course at East 15 acting school where she starred in roles such as Juliet in Shakespeares Romeo & Juliet and the character A in An intervention by Mike Bartlett. Olivia is an alumni student of Mimic's Principal and also attended the Mimic Actor Training Programme (MAT course). She is represented by Mimic's Associate Agency Hashtag Talent and is excited to work with Mimic's younger students at Welwyn Main School!

Abbie Reck

Dance Teacher (Lite & Main School)

Abbie graduated in Dance and Performance from Buckinghamshire New University in 2019, and she then became a teacher at Mimic. Abbie has been dancing since the age of three and began teaching dance at 15 years old. Abbie trained in jazz at university and has ISTD certificates in modern, tap and ballet. She also taught locally at the NBDA, Shooting Stars, Tophat, Lemon Jelly and directed 2 NODA award winning youth shows for Expressions. Abbie founded an award winning Musical Theatre Society during her time at university, and achieved committee member of the year herself. Abbie is also trained in educating children about Mental Health. She directed her first Mimic production: The Land of Rainbows in 2023, followed by Charlie & The Chocolate Factory/St Finnians in 2024. Abbie became Vice Principal for Mimic in 2023.

Eleanor Johnson

Drama & Singing Teacher

(Lite School)

Eleanor has been performing her whole life and is about to graduate from Emil Dale Academy after completing her professional training in musical theatre. She is an experienced teacher and absolutely loves sharing her passion for performing arts with budding performers. Eleanor has been teaching dance, singing and acting for 4 years as well as private singing lessons. Eleanor is trained in LAMDA examinations and is a registered vocal health first aider. Eleanor is super excited to be joining the Mimic team!!

Oliver McKinney

Drama & Singing Teacher

(Main School)

Oliver McKinney is a professional actor, singer and dancer with experience across musical theatre, commercial work and international cruise entertainment. He has performed throughout the UK and internationally, appearing on multiple international cruise ships and bringing current industry knowledge and professional experience into the classroom.

​

Most recently, Oliver performed as Lead Male Vocalist with Holland America Line through Blackburn International. Prior to this, he completed two contracts aboard Seven Seas Voyager with Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings, performing as Lead Vocalist (M1) and later taking on the additional responsibility of Company Manager, supporting the day-to-day running of the entertainment team. 

His theatre credits include Prince Peter of Pogmore in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Prince Valiant in Sleeping Beauty, Eddie in The Wild Party, and Herr Schultz in Cabaret. He has also appeared in a featured commercial for Santander and participated in professional workshops including Britain to Broadway and Youth Music Theatre's Fight Like a Girl.


Alongside his performing career, Oliver is passionate about developing young performers, creating an inclusive and engaging learning environment where students can build confidence, creativity and strong performance skills. Drawing on his professional experience, he enjoys helping students discover their potential while providing practical insight into careers within the performing arts.

Isabella Smith

Performing Arts Teacher (Minis)

Assistant (Lite & Main School)

Acro Teacher

Isabella is currently studying for her A-Levels at Monks Walk school. Isabella has had a passion for dance ever since she started dancing from the age of 2. She currently dances at Ignite Dance Company and competes in dance festivals including All England and the Dance World Cup. One of her biggest achievements was gaining 3rd in the world for her tap solo. She has gained many medals through all genres of dance. She currently does Tap, Modern, Ballet, Jazz, Musical Theatre, Contemporary, Commercial and Acro. She has completed up to advanced levels in her Tap and Modern exams and currently in senior classes for all other genres. Isabella has also been in 6 pantomimes; Cinderella, Dick Whittington, Beauty and The Beast, Aladdin, Snow White and the Severn dwarfs and Jack and the Beanstalk at Campus West Hawthorne Theatre. Isabella is also under Daisy&Dukes agency and has had many acting opportunities, including working on Eastenders a numerous amount of times, which she really enjoyed. Isabella loves working with the Minis and helping them to progress and achieve their dreams!

Jenna Roberts

Minis Assistant

Jenna is a student at BASE Performing Arts College in London studying for a level 3 extended diploma in the performing arts. She has been training at mimic main school since the very beginning and has been performing since the age of 2. She also trains at Splitz School of Dance and Drama. She has done six professional pantomimes as an ensemble dancer and has appeared as Katherine Howard in Six: Teen Edition. Jenna is very excited to be working with the mini’s and to be able to watch them grow as performers.

Year Structure

Both our Performing Arts groups (Main and Lite School) enjoy different projects to work towards each term. These include Christmas Showcases, technique terms with end of term watch weeks and industry preparation, as well as our main offering: our full show terms. Our Acro and Minis classes also take part in shows around technique work and showcases.
