Kim Southey
Founder & Principal
​
Kim founded Mimic Theatre Company and Mimic Stage School in 2018 after training on an MA in 'Text and Performance' at RADA and Birkbeck. She went on to train in a Graduate course in Directing with Katie Mitchell. Kim has written and directed plays for Theatre N16, Intermission, Sense of Place, Original Impact, and the Actor Awareness Festival, and her poem 'Egg-Shaped Prick' was published in Chewin the Fat Magazine. Kim assistant directed for 'Gertrude the Cry' (N16), and a UK tour of 'Twelfth Night' with Shooting Stars Theatre. She has also worked for Theatre Tours International and Full House. Her play 'Growing Pains' enjoyed two successful runs, at the Hope in 2022 and the Barn Theatre in 2025. Following this, the play received funding for a UK tour from the Follett Trust.

Dean Tanner
Co-Founder & Creative Partner

Dean graduated from The University of the Lincoln in 2012 with a degree in Film and Media and has since worked in television as a Producer. Credits include: Traffic Cops (Channel 5), Accused: Guilty or Innocent? (BBC), Emergency (Channel 4), GPs Behind Closed Doors (Channel 5), Breaking the Taboo (Sundog Pictures), 24 Hours in A&E (Channel 4), 24 Hours in Police Custody (Channel 4) and Tyger Takes On (BBC 3). Dean has assisted in youth productions with several companies between 2017-2020. Dean's various roles at Mimic stretch from anything and everything, including poster design, mics, photographer, stage manager/stage hand and advisor. Original shows include Fame Jr, Dreams of Anne Frank, Scheherazade, The Boy Preference & Six, and The Jungle Book.

Abbie Reck
Vice Principal

Abbie graduated from Buckinghamshire New University in Dance & Performance in 2019, where she specialised in Jazz, and then began teaching at Mimic. Abbie trained from the age of three and began teaching dance at 15 years old. She has ISTD certificates in modern, tap and ballet, has taught locally at various stage schools and directed two NODA award winning youth shows. Abbie founded an award winning Musical Theatre Society and achieved committee member of the year herself. She is trained in educating children about Mental Health, and since joining Mimic, Abbie has assistant produced, directed and choreographed countless shows. Abbie became Vice Principal for Mimic in 2023.

Shaun Nolan

​The Arts have always been the foundation of Shaun's life and now, he loves working with people who have that similar kind of passion. What Shaun believes is so wonderful about working with educators in the Arts is getting to see people inspire others with their passions and open minds to something new.​ As well as working with a number of theatre schools and production companies to help bring this work to life, he is also starting on a career in writing, acting, directing and producing work of his own, His stage work includes "Paper Dolls" (Edinburgh Festival Fringe, 2018), "Paper Dolls & Other Shorts" (Aylesbury Waterside Theatre, 2019), "A Place Set Aside for Sleeping" (The Limelight Theatre, 2022), and "Party Baggage" (The Drayton Arms Theatre, 2024), as well as countless other audio and film projects.

Edie Spencer
Company Stage Manager​
​
Edie is a skilled technician and musician holding a BSc degree in Live Sound & Lighting Technology from the University of Hertfordshire. She works full time as a Technician at a college and is actively involved in various freelance technical roles.​ A long-term member of Mimic Theatre Company, Edie has taken on several significant roles with show credits including: Deputy Stage manager for Camp Rock and Oliver as well as Stage Manager for Matilda, Les Miserables, Scherazade and Peter Pan. She also served as Sound No.2 and Stage Crew for Beauty and the Beast pantomime.​ In her freelance career, Edie has toured the UK visiting various theatres and gaining extensive experience. Additionally, she is an accomplished musician, holding Grade 8 Viola and Grade 6 singing. Edie is an active member of a local choir and has performed at prestigious venues like the Royal Albert Hall with the Hertfordshire School Symphony Orchestra.​ She loves working with Children and finds immense joy in watching them grow and succeed. She eagerly anticipates supporting their creative development in future shows.
